FAQs

Thinking of buying from CHINA or HONG KONG?

Here are FIVE reasons why you shouldn’t

1) You will have to wait 2-4 weeks for the item to arrive, and then it may not arrive at all. Even though it may appear on some sites that you are buying from the UK infact the products are drop shipped from abroad.

2) No matter what the seller will tell you, if you buy from outside the EU, you WILL have to pay 20% Vat and upto 14% Import duty. So what seems a cheaper purchase will have expensive hidden costs. Customs’ invoices will be sent through 3-4 weeks after the item arrives.

3) If the seller attempts to aid you in avoiding these taxes by declaring the item illegally as a gift there is a high probability customs will impound the item and destroy it. You will then have paid out a lot of money for nothing.

4) Warranty will be an issue if you buy from abroad. If you’re lucky enough to buy from a Chinese or Hong Kong seller which does claim to offer a warranty you’ll find that should a fault occur the cost of sending the item back is very expensive (sometimes up to 50% of the item value).

5) Is the product fully CE certified to be sold in the EU? although most sellers will claim the products to be CE approved it is highly unlikely that this is the case and therefore means that the product has not undergone the relevant tests to ensure that it conforms to the applicable EC Directives. This means the product is illegal for sale and could be dangerous due to excessively high SAR levels or an unapproved potentially lethal Lithium Ion Polymer battery.

What is Bluetooth?

Bluetooth is a short-range wireless communications technology designed to replace the cable that usually connect portable and/or fixed devices while maintaining high levels of security.

The key features of Bluetooth technology are robustness, low power and low cost. The Bluetooth specification defines a uniform structure for a wide range of devices to connect and communicate with each other. A fundamental Bluetooth wireless technology strength is the ability to simultaneously handle both data and voice transmission.

Any Bluetooth enabled device, almost everywhere in the world, can connect to the other Bluetooth enabled devices that are nearby. Each device can also simultaneously communicate with up to seven devices at the same time.

How can I conserve battery on my sWaP Watch?

All sWaP models battery life can be affected substantially by the below points.

1. Bluetooth – Having your bluetooth switched on when not in use can substantially reduce battery life, please switch off when not in use.

2. Screen Saver – By activating the screen saver you can substantially increase your sWaP’s battery life.
(This will mean however that you will have to double tap you sWaP display for the time to update itself, as opposed to it constsntly updating
minute by minute which drains the sWaP battery very quickly)

3. Media Player – Watching video clips, listening to music, recording video, viewing pictures regularly … all of these factors as expected will severely effect
your sWaP battery life, by minimising these you can increase your battery life enourmously.

4. GPRS Signal – Depending where you are, for example if you are constantly  in a low signal area then the sWaP will continuously  be searching for  a
stronger signal and this itself can drain the sWaP battery faster than usual, when in a stronger reception area this will increase battery life.

5. As with all mobile phone batteries is critical to  reduce the unnecessary use of features that impact upon your battery life and the sWaP is no exception.

N.B.
It is always recomended to fully drain your sWaP battery before you then return it to charge, this can greatly help to prolong the life cycle of the battery.

What is SAR?

SAR (specific absorption rate) is a measurement of how much electromagnetic radiation is absorbed by body tissue whilst using a mobile phone. The higher the SAR the more radiation is absorbed.

In Europe, the European Union Council has adopted the recommendations made by the International Commission on Non-Ionising Radiation Protection (ICNIRP Guidelines 1998). These recommendations set a SAR limit of 2.0 W/kg in 10g of tissue. The UK Government has endorsed this limit. The five mobile phone network operators have agreed to voluntarily adopt the ICNIRP guidelines for public exposure. All mobile phones on sale in the UK comply with this limit.

In the United States, the Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association (CTIA) requires all cell phones to comply with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) SAR limit of 1.6 W/kg in 1g of tissue.

How to reduce your exposure to phone radiation

  • Do not use your phone more than necessary and keep your calls short
  • Send a text instead of making a call
  • Try to avoid using your phone if the signal strength is low – find a better location to make a call
  • Try to use the phone outdoors rather than inside, or move close to a window to make a call
  • Keep the phone (and particularly the aerial) as far as possible from your head
  • Avoid touching the aerial while the phone is turned on, and keep the phone away from areas of the body such as eyes, testicles, breasts and internal organs
  • Limit usage as much as possible if pregnant
  • Switch off your phone when not in use

You should be aware that if the phone is receiving a very strong signal from a base station, then power output can be reduced by up to 1000 times compared with when the phone has a poor signal.
